Thomas Critchlow Art Glass
Meet the Maker
Hi, I’m Ailsa, the creator behind Thomas Critchlow Art Glass
My love of stained glass started with my grandfather’s stained glass suncatchers. I remember the sunlight would dance through them, throwing beautiful colors everywhere. The joy my grandmother found in those pieces stuck with me and inspired me to keep that legacy alive. The “Thomas” in TCAG is my grandfather, and his love for stained glass still inspires me!
Hand-created with Craftsmanship
Every piece is made with skill and attention to detail, using a mix of traditional methods—like lead came and Tiffany-style copper foil—along with my own touches. I handpick, cut, and shape each piece of glass. I solder, clean, and polish the completed work to give it that perfect finish, ready to bring a little bit of magic to your space.
A New Chapter
After retiring from nursing, I decided to follow my heart and dive into stained glass full time. What started as a hobby quickly turned into something much bigger, and with the support of my family, Thomas Critchlow Art Glass was born. It’s more than just a business for me—it’s a way to celebrate my grandfather’s art and share that joy with you.
Craftsmanship with Heart
I use high-quality materials for every piece, often choosing USA-made glass and supplies. I want each piece to feel special, whether it’s detailed with copper wire or left simple so the glass can do all the talking. Everything I create is built to last and designed to bring warmth, color, and light into your life.
My Goal
My goal is simple: to create pieces that brighten your home and bring a little magic to your day. Whether it’s a custom ornament, a beautiful window panel, or something special for a loved one, I want to help make you feel as unique as the pieces I create.
Thanks for Visiting
I’m glad you stopped by! I hope you find something here that speaks to you—whether it’s a gift for someone special or a new piece to brighten your own home. I’m honored to share my craft with you and can’t wait for you to take home a piece of my work.
Until next time,
Ailsa

How it’s Made
Using a meticulously hand-drawn template, I carefully trace the design onto sheets of glass.
Each piece undergoes precise hand-cutting and meticulous smoothing to eliminate any sharp edges.
Following a visit to the washstand for the removal of oil and debris, the glass is left to dry, preparing it for the next steps.
When needed, copper foil tape is carefully applied to the edges and burnished for optimal adhesion.
Returning to the workstation, the piece undergoes the intricate processes of soldering and the application of fine details.
After a second visit to the washstand, a rich dark patina is applied if needed, providing the metals with a luxurious vintage finish.
The piece receives a final wash before being left to dry completely.
Once dry, your artwork is meticulously buffed to a gentle shine before being thoughtfully packed and shipped to you!

Caring for Your Stained Glass:
To clean your glass, use a soft cloth and wipe gently. If using a cleaner, ensure it is non-ammonia and non-abrasive, and use a soft cloth for gentle wiping. A drop or two of mild dish soap works well.
Avoid vinegar, ammonia (common in many glass cleaners), and acid-based cleansers, as these can harm the came and solder that hold the piece together. Abrasive materials may remove or scratch the patina on the metal.
For hanging, we recommend using a picture hanger, nail, or cup hook at the top of your window sill. Please refrain from using suction cups, as they are not reliable and may fail.
When storing, wrap the piece in tissue paper and then padding material/box, as bubble wrap and plastics can potentially damage the came and solder.
